A person constructing a house is in need of a ladder. The ladder needs to be placed 5 feet away
from the foot of a wall. The height of the wall is 12 feet. The person got to know that you have
the knowledge of Pythagoras theorem and you can calculate the length of the ladder needed.

Answer:

13 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the ladder be AC and the wall be AB   (see figure)

by Pythagoras theorem,

AB² + BC² = AC²

12² + 5² = AC²

144 + 25 = AC²

169 = AC²

∴ AC = √169 = 13 ft

∴ Length of the ladder is 13 feet
