What is the work done by it? Is work a scalar quantity?

Work Done = force (in the direction of displacement) × displacement. As the box isn't moved, the displacement = 0 ie w = F × 0 =0.

It is a scalar quantity.

The person done 0 work because work is f×d and displacement is zero and work is a scalar quantity
