Average Speed = total distance/total time

⇒ (150 + 150)/(3+2)

⇒ 300/5

60 km/hr

We have to determine the average speed

The formula that will be used is

Average speed = total distance / total time

  • First, we will find out the individual time

Speed = distance/ time

time = distance / speed

t₁ = \frac{150}{50}

   = 3 hour

t₂ = \frac{150}{75}

   = 2 hour

  • Total distance = 150 + 150

                               = 300 km

        Total time = 3 + 2

                         = 5 hour

Average speed = \frac{300}{5}

                            = 60 km/h

The average speed for the total distance covered will be 60 km/h
