as the distance between X & Y is 300 m and the person travels it in 200 s. Speed = Distance/Time, Speed = 300/200 = 1.5 m/s
He returns to Z from Y, D=100s , t=100s, s=1 m/s
As average speed b/w X and Z is asked, we need to sum 1.5 + 1 and divide by 2

Answer a) 1.5m/s, b) 1.25m/s
