Concept Introduction

Speed of someone is defined as distance travelled per unit time. Speed is inversely proportional to time taken hence lesser the speed more is time taken.

Given

A person goes to his office from his home daily at a fixed speed. But today he decided to reduce his speed by 20% as a result he reaches his office 16minutes late.

To Find

We have to find the actual time taken to reach the office.

Solution

According to the problem,

Let the speed be s and actual time be t.

Therefore after decreasing speed we get,

0.8s=d/(t+16)

0.8s=st/(t+16)

0.8t+12.8=t

t=12.8/0.2=64 minutes.

Hence, actual time taken by the person is 64minutes.
