Step-by-step explanation:

Let’s assume you have you have the following number of animals

fishes - x

monkey - y

lion - z

Let's find out the price of 1 animal from the problem statement

fish - 1/40 rupees (as 40 fish costs 1 rs)

monkey - 3 rupees (given)

lion - 5 rupees (given)

Now, we want the number of animals to be 100

Therefore,

x + y + z = 100 [Equation 1]

Also, the cost of total animals is 100

Therefore,

x/40 + 3*y + 5*z = 100 [Equation 2]

Now, each term in equation 2 has to be an integer otherwise the number of monkey or lion will be in fractions (fraction not possible).

Therefore there are only 3 cases for x (number of fishes)= 0, 40, 80 (120 and greater not possible as y+z will become <0 in equation 1)

Now solving the equations 1 and 2 with three cases of x = 0, 40, 80

Case 1 : x = 0, z<0 (not possible)

Case 2 : x = 40, z<0 (not possible)

Case 3 : x = 80, y = 1, z = 19

Therefore, the number of animals

fishes - 80

monkey - 1

lion - 19

Also if you check the two equations the solutions satisfy, thereby verifying our result.
