Vaccines contain antigens specific to the target organism. The small pox vaccine stimulates the production of antibodies which act against the small pox virus. These antibodies are ineffective against other illnesses. Thus if a person is bitten by a rabid dog they would not need to be immunised for small pox but rather receive immediate treatment for rabies.
