A person in a kayak starts paddling, and it accelerates from 0 to 0.413 m/s in a distance of 0.313 m. If the combined mass of the person and the kayak is 72.1 kg, what is the magnitude of the net force acting on the kayak?

First find acceleration.

v^2 - u^2 = 2aS

=> 0.413^2 - 0 = 2a*0.313

=> a = (0.413*0.413)/(2*0.313) = 0.27 m/s^2

Then find net force.

F = ma

=> F = 72.1 * 0.27 = 19.64 N
