Given :  A person is rowing across the river with a velocity of 4.5 km/hr northward. The river is flowing eastward at 3.5 km/hr

To find : magnitude of her velocity (v) with respect to the shore

Solution:

Northward velocity = 4.5 km /hr

East ward Velocity =  3.5 km/hr

Ne velocity = √(4.5)² + (3.5)²

= √20.25 + 12.25

= √32.5

= 5.7

magnitude of her velocity (v) with respect to the shore  = 5.7 km/hr
