a person is suffering from hiv-aids cannot fight even minor infections.why?

The hiv-aids virus attacks the immune system of a person .If the immunity is disabled then a person will not be able to even fight a simple disease like cold.A person with HIV doesn't die because of hiv but the diseases which attack him.
