> Then he went 20m west to C.

> Then he went all the way 30 root 2 m to D.

> Complete the rectangle ABCE.

> We can see that AB=CE=30m.

> By Pythagorean theorem,

> DE = square root of (DC^2 - CE^2)

= square root of (1800 - 900)

= square root of 900 = 30.

> Therefore, DE=30m.

But, DE = DA+AE

> DA+AE=30

> DA+20=30

Therefore, DA = 10m west from origin.
