A person moves with speed 30 m/s for the first t second, then he moves with speed 50 m/s for next t second on a straight line path.Find average speed of the person

Consider 3 collinear points A , B and C. Person moves from A to B with speed 30m/s for t seconds.

Then moves from B to C with speed 50m/s for another t seconds.

Distance between A &B = speed × time

= 30m/s × t s

= 30t m

Distance between B& C = speed × time

= 50m/s × t s

= 50t m

Total distance travelled = 30t m + 50t m

= 80t m

Total time taken = t + t =2t

Average speed = total distance / total time

= 80t m ÷ 2t = 40m/s

~ Average speed of person is 40m/s.
