90 inches or 7.5 feet

Let the length of each step be x,

Distance of each slab is 6x (6 steps = one slab) ...(i)

Length of each step is increased by 3 inches so  distance of each step is now x+3

Distance of each slab is 5(x+3) (5 steps = one slab) ... (ii)

Distance of each slab from (i) and (ii) are equal

6x = 5(x+3)

x = 15

Substituting x in (i) or (ii) we get

Distance of each step is 90 inches or 90/12 which is 7.5 feet.
