The lift is descending with downward acceleration,so the eff aceleration will be in downward direction....

 a_{eff} = g - a

hence, 10-9=1 m/s2

Fnet=m×aeff

=50×1

F =50N

mass=5 kg(50÷10=5....convrting newton to kg)

The reading of the weighing scale will be 5 kg.

Given that,

Mass of a person, m = 50 kg

If the lift is descending with a downward acceleration of 9\ m/s^2

To find,

The reading of the weighing scale.

Solution,

Let N is the weight on the weighing scale. The net force acting on the man on the lift that is moving in downward direction is given by :

N+ma=mg

a is acceleration of lift

N=m(g-a)\\\\N=50\times (10-1)\\\\N=50\ N

So, the reading of the weighing scale is 50 N.
