A person purchased a rectangular painting 62cm long and 46cm wide and wanted to patch it on a rectangular card board leaving a 6cm wide margin in all the four sides of the cardboard. Find the area of the piece of cardboard he used to patch the painting.​

The answer will be 4262 centimetre square.

Actual length =62cm

length with added margin= 62+6+6 =74cm

Actual width= 46cm

width with added margin= 46+6+6= 58cm

therefore total area of the piece of cardboard = 74×58

=4292cm^2
