No, the work done on an object W = F s, does not depends on whether the object moves through  the distance "d" quickly or slowly.

Explanation:

  • (a) Assume the trolley moves without friction?

F= ma=(72 kg+15 kg)(0.60 m/s^2) = 52 N

W = F s =(52 N)(2.5 m) = 130 J

  • (b)How far must the person push the trolley to do 140 J of work.

As W = F. d

d=W / F=140 J/52 N = 2.7 m

Thus d = 2.7 m

  • (c) Does the work done by the person depends on the speed of the trolley?

No, the work done on an object W = F s, does not depends on whether the object moves through  the distance "d" quickly or slowly.
