Answer :- Let us assume that, CP of a table is Rs.T and CP of a chair is Rs.C .

we know that,

  • 12.5% = 1/8 .
  • 8.33% = 1/12 .

Case 1) :-

→ Profit on table - Loss on chair = Rs.12

→ (1/8)T - (1/12)C = 12

→ 3T - 2C/24 = 12

→ 3T - 2C = 288 --------- Eqn.(1)

Case 2) :-

→ Profit on chair - Loss on table = 0

→ (1/8)C - (1/12)T = 0

→ (3C - 2T)/24 = 0

→ 3C - 2T = 0 ----------- Eqn.(2)

multiply Eqn.(1) by 3 and Eqn.(2) by 2 and adding the result ,

→ 3(3T - 2C) + 2(3C - 2T) = 3*288 - 0

→ 9T - 4T - 6C + 6C = 864

→ 5T = 864

→ T = Rs.172.8 (Ans.)
