Reason: because of the gravitational pull of the earth the boy is also moving with the same velocity of the car let it be "u" when the ball is thrown from that point It still has the velocity that of the car after sometime it will come back to the initial position and will form a straight line for the car but in real it will form a parabola for a receiver who is watching this happening.
