A person stands between 2 vertical cliffs. When he shouts standing X m from the nearest cliff he hears the echo after t1 seconds and the second echo after t2 seconds.Find the speed of sound and the distance between 2 cliffs.​

speed of sound = 2x/t1

distance between cliffs = x + xt2/t1

it is given that, distance of person from the nearest cliff is x m

when he shouted , he hears the eco after t1 second from the nearest cliff and t2 second from the farthest cliff.

speed of sound, v = distance travelled by sound /time taken

= (2 × distance between person and nearest cliff)/time taken

= 2x/t1.....(1)

now, 2 × distance between person and farthest cliff = speed of sound × time taken = 2x/t1 × t2

distance between person and farthest cliff = xt2/t2

so, distance between cliffs = x + xt2/t1
