A person starts his job with a certain monthly salary and earns a fixed

increment every year. If his salary was Rs. 4500 after 4 years of serviceand Rs. 5400 after ten years of service, find his initial salary and theannual increment.

Let x be his initial salary.

Let y be his annual increment.

According to 1st condition,

x+4y=4500 ------------1

According to 2nd condition'

x+10y=5400 -----------2

Subtracting equation 1 from 2'

we get,

x+10y=5400

-x+4y=4500

6y=900

y=900/6

y=150

Substituting the value of y in 1 eqn

x+4y=4500

x+4*150=4500

x+600=4500

x=4500-600

x=3900

Therefore, initial salary is 3900 and annual increment is 150 RS.
