A person starts from point X and runs 2 km south. He takes a right turn and runs 3 km, then turns to his left and run 2 km, he finally takes a left turn and runs 6 km and stop at the point Y. How far and which direction is point X with respect to point Y?

In triangle XYZ we apply Pythagoras theorem (base)2 + (perpendicular)2 = (hypotenuse)2

ZY2 + ZX2 = XY2

ZY = 3 km, XZ= 2 + 2 = 4 km XY = ?

32 + 42 = XY2

XY2 = 9 + 16

XY2 = 25

XY = 5 km

5 Km, North-West.
