In triangle XYZ we apply Pythagoras theorem (base)2 + (perpendicular)2 = (hypotenuse)2
ZY2 + ZX2 = XY2
ZY = 3 km, XZ= 2 + 2 = 4 km XY = ?
32 + 42 = XY2
XY2 = 9 + 16
XY2 = 25
XY = 5 km
