most pepole who die of AIDS do not die from the virus itself they die from opportunistic infection (or "OLS") often ppl are infected with the ol long b4 they become infected with HIV THEIR FUNCTIONING IMMUNE SYSTEM KEEPS the OL under control so they dont have any symptoms of the infection

aids - acquired immuno deficiency syndrome
HIV virus directly attacks human immune system , weakens it and destructs its ability to fight against pathogens and thus the person becomes immunodeficient . so the person can't protect himself/herself from oppurtinistic infections
