A person swims 100 m in the first
40 s, 160 m in the next 40 s and 45 m
in the last 80 s. What is the average
speed?

Answer:

average speed = total distance / total time taken

total distance = 100 + 160 + 45 = 305 m

total time = 40 + 40 + 80 = 160 s

average speed = 305 / 160 =     1.9 m/s
