A person swims 100m in the first 40 seconds, 80m in the next 40 seconds and 45m in the last 20 seconds. What is the average speed

average speed is given as:

average speed = total distance is covered / total time taken..

so putting all the values we get :

 \frac{ 100 + 80 + 45}{40 + 40 + 20} m {s}^{ - 1}

so we get

  average \: speed \:  = \frac{225}{100} m {s}^{ - 1}

finally,

average \: speed \:  =  22.5m {s}^{ - 1}
