Correct Question

A person travelling at 43.2Km/h applies breake a deceleration of 6.0m/s2 to his scooter. How far will it travel before stopping??

Solution

Given

  • Initial Velocity (u) = 43.2 Km/h
  • Acceleration (a) = - 6 m/s²

To finD

  • Distance covered before stopping

Here,

  • Acceleration is along negative x axis i.e.,it's retardation » a = - 6 m/s²
  • Final Velocity would be zero as the breaks have been applied
  • Initial Velocity = 43.2 × 5/18 = 2.4 × 5 = 12 m/s

From v² - u² = 2as,

0² - 12² = 2(-6)s

» - 144 = - 12s

» s = 144/12

» s = 12 m

The scooter covers 12m before come to rest
