22 km is the Horizontal distance from the original position.

Given:

Travel with direction for a person as below:

7 km towards the east,

then turns right and travels 7 km,

then travels 15 km towards the left,

then goes 12 km towards the left again

finally goes 5 km towards the north.

To Find:

Horizontal distance from the original position.

Solution:

Understand the directions:

            NORTH

WEST                 EAST

              SOUTH

Horizontal Distances will be in East and west Direction

East taken as +ve and West taken as -ve

we will ignore distances in South and North as need to find horizontal distance.

7 km towards the east, => + 7

then turns right and travels 7 km, => Right from East is South , ignore

then travels 15 km towards the left => left from South is East hence + 15

then goes 12 km towards the left again => left from East is North , ignore

finally goes 5 km towards the north. => North,  ignore

Hence 7 + 15 = 22 km is the Horizontal distance from the original position.
