Answer:

Usual time is 10/3 hours or 200 minutes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A person walking \frac{5}{6} of his usual rate is 40 minutes late.

To find : What is his usual time?

Solution :

Let, The normal time, t

and normal rate, r

We know,

Distance is speed into times

i.e, d=rt

1 min=\frac{1}{60} hr

40 min=\frac{40}{60}=\frac{2}{3}hr

According to question,

d=\frac{5}{6}r\times (t+\frac{2}{3})

t=\frac{5}{6}(t+\frac{2}{3})

t=\frac{5}{6}t+\frac{5}{6}\times\frac{2}{3}

t-\frac{5}{6}t=\frac{5}{9}

\frac{t}{6}=\frac{5}{9}

t=\frac{5\times 6}{9}

t=\frac{10}{3}

Therefore, Usual time is 10/3 hours or 200 minutes.
