To find:

The displacement of the object

Solution:

As from the figure you can see that the triangles formed are similar to each other.

And one of the sides of the triangle is 4 centimeters.

So by the similarity rule, the line DC must bisect the line AB

So the length of AE must be 3 cm

Now,

in any of the triangle using the Pythagoras theorem

ΔADE

AD²+AE² = DE²

  • 4²+3² = DE²
  • DE² = 16+9
  • DE = √25
  • DE = 5 cm

And the displacement is

  • DC = 2DE
  • DC = 2×5 cm
  • DC  = 10 cm

So the displacement of the body is 10 cm
