Given,

Walks in north for 750 m

Walks in east for 250 m

total time = 12 min

To find,

The average velocity.

Solution,

We can easily solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process.

Here, we have to calculate the total displacement which is the straight line distance between the starting point and the end point of the journey.

Here, the two directions are perpendicular to each other. So, we just have to calculate the length of the hypotenuse to get the value of displacement, by applying the Pythagoras theorem.

Displacement = √(750)²+(250)² = √(562500+62500) = ✓625000 = 790.6 m

Velocity = 790.6/12 min = 65.88 m/min = 3952.8 m/h = 3.95 km/h

Hence, the velocity of the person is 3.95 km/h
