A person walks along the sides of a square field each side is 100m long. What is the maximum magnitude of displacement of the person in any time interval?

The max magnitude of displacement is when he travels from one vertex to its opposite. Therefore the max displacement is 100√2 m

Join diagonals of the square to obtain 4 triangles . use Pythagoras theorem in the triangle you will get length of diagonal = 100 *1.414= 141.4 metres
