Given :- A person was asked to find 7/9 of a fraction. He made a mistake of dividing the fraction by 7/9and so got an answer which exceeded the correct answer by 8/21.

To Find :-

  • The correct Answer ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, the given Fraction was F .

Than, According to question ,

→ (F ÷ 7/9) - (F * 7/9) = 8/21

→ (F * 9/7) - (7F/9) = 8/21

→ (9F/7) - (7F/9) = 8/21

Taking LCM of denominators,

→ (9F*9 - 7F*7) / 63 = 8 / 21

→ (81F - 49F) / 63 = 8/21

→ 32F / 63 = 8/21

Cross - Multiply,

→ 32F * 21 = 8 * 63

Dividing both sides by 21,

→ 32F = 8 * 3

Dividing both sides by 8,

→ 4F = 3

→ F = (3/4)

Therefore,

Correct Answer = (7/9) of (3/4) = (7/9) * (3/4) = (7/12) (Ans.)
