Fish contains a high amount of Iodine. Iodine help in synthesis of thyroxine. It is the hormone that is secreted into the blood by the thyroid gland. It is present in an inactive form and is useless untill it is converted to an active hormone called triiodothyronine by  the liver and kidneys. It Controls the rate of cellular metabolism and the rate at which oxygen is consumed and energy is produced. Hence the production of iodine leads to maintaining the thyroxine balance in our body and prevent goitre.
