Answer:

If person A can do a piece of work in 20 days…..you can find the ratio of work he/she does in one day by doing

If 20=1

1=?

Doing cross multiplication of this it beomes:

1/20×1….this makes the answer 1/20

This now means that person A does 1/20 of tge toral work in one day……and he did the work for 5 days. Then you have to multiply the amount of work he does in a day by the number of days he did…. Hence:

1/20×5=

The answer becomes:=5/20….and after simplifying the fraction it becomes

1/4….a quarter….

This means that person A did a quarter of the work before berson B came to finish it in ten more days..

The remaining work after person A left it for person B…was 3/4 of the work….

“this is gotten by substracting tge quarter of the work done from the whole of the work…”

Like 1-1/4=3/4

Person B did the work in 10 days(I'm taking the question as in the total work was done in 15 days like person A got to do it in 5 days then person B got ot finish the remaining work in 10 days) …this means that person B did 3/4of the work in 10 days..

Using the cross multiplication method, you can get the ratio of work that personB can do in one day.

Like;

3/4=10

? =1

This is to get the amount of work he can do in one day….. Hence tge equation becomes;

3/4×10

Hence you get the answer as 30/4…meaning that person B does 15/2 of the work in one day…

To get the ratio of the work they get to do in one day, you add the the ratios of work each person does in one day to get the total work they do in one day then after getting the amount ratio of work they get to do in a day, you divide the whole work by the ratio you get and it can be like (1 divide by the ratio of work the two do in a day) and you get the number of days the two persons get to finish the work.

ANSWER

Let the total work be 1

Then, According to question X takes 25 days to do 1 work.

Then work done by X in 1 day=

25

1

Also according to question Y takes 20 days to do 1 work.

Then work doe by Y in 1 day=

20

1

Then total work done by both of them in 1 day =

20

1

+

25

1

=

100

9

Then total work done by both of them 5 days=

100

45

Then total work left =1−

100

45

=

100

55

Now, As Y can do 1 work in 25 days therefore,

Y can do

100

55

work in

100

55

×25 days

= 55/4 days
