A physical quantity measured is – 10 ms-1. Is it speed, velocity or acceleration? Mention three ways in which this quantity can be altered.

The physical quantity is  velocity. As the magnitude of the quantity is negative,  it cannot be speed. The units of the quantity is m/s which are not the units of acceleration.

Three ways of altering:

  1. Taking the magnitude of the quantity ( in other words, removing the minus sign) will give speed. ( Assuming the body is travelling in straight line).
  2. Multiplying the quantity by time will give Displacement.
  3. Dividing the Quantity by time will give acceleration.
