Given: a physical quantity q is found to depend on observable x, y and z obeying relation q = x^3y^2/z

To find: what is percentage error in the quantity q?

Solution:

  • Now we have given  q = x^3y^2/z
  • The percentage error in the measurements of x y and z are 1%, 2% and 4% respectively.
  • So the percentage error is:

                  Δq/q = 3Δx/x + 2Δy/y + Δz/z

  • Putting the values in it, we get:

                  Δq/q = 3(1) + 2(2) + (4)

                  Δq/q = 11%

Answer:

So the percentage error in the quantity q is 11%.
