Given:

thickness of the frame=4

length of the outer side of the picture=8s

Solution:

Part a)

Find the expression for the area of the frame.

Area of the frame\[ = area of the outer square -area of the inner square

                            \[\begin{array}{l} = {\left( {8s} \right)^2} - {\left( {8s - 8} \right)^2}\\ = 64{s^2} - 64{s^2} + 128s - 64\\ = 128s - 64\end{array}\]

Therefore, the expression for the area of the frame is  128s-64.

Part b)

Find the area of the frame if s=15cm.

area of the frame  =128s-64.

                              \[\begin{array}{l} = 1920 - 64\\ = 1856c{m^2}\end{array}\]

hence , the area of the frame is \[1856c{m^2}\].
