A picture frame is 36cm long and 30 cm broad. The part of the frame surrounding the picture is 4cm wide on all sides . Find the length and breadth of the space for the picture. What is the area of this space?

Therefore, area of outer part of picture frame =

l x b

= 36 x 30

= 1080 cm^2

Length of inner part of picture frame = 36 - 4 = 32cm

Breadth of inner part of picture frame = 30 - 4 = 26cm

Therefore area of inner part of picture frame = l x b

32 x 26

= 832 cm^2

Now, area of space inside picture frame = 1080 - 832 = 248 cm^2
