Question : A picture is 60 cm wide and 1.8 m long. The ratio of its width to its perimeter in lowest form is____?

(a) 1:3

(b) 1:4

(c) 1:8

(d) 1:2

Solution : Here we convert 60 cm into metre,

⟹ 60 cm = 60/100 = 0.6 m

Here we know,

⟹ Width of picture ( W ) = 0.6 m

⟹ Length of picture ( L ) = 1.8 m

Let, shape of picture be rectangular.

Now, we use formula of perimeter of rectangle.

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular picture = 2 * ( L + W )

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular picture = 2 * ( 1.8 + 0.6 )

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular picture = 2 * 2.4

⟹ Perimeter of rectangular picture = 4.8 m

Now, ratio of width of picture to its perimeter,

⟹ Width of picture/Perimeter of picture = 0.6/4.8

⟹ Width of picture/Perimeter of picture = 1/8

∴ Width of picture:Perimeter of picture = 1:8

Answer : The ratio of width of picture to its perimeter is 1:8 {Answer: (c) 1:8}.
