Answer:

length of painting = 8-1.5*2 = 5

width of painting = 5-1.5*2  = 2

area of painting + margin = 8*5 = 40 cm^2

area of painting = 5*2 = 10 cm^2

Area of margin = Area of painting and margin - area of painting = 40-10 = 30 cm^2

Given :

  • A picture is painted on a cardboard 8 cm long and 5 cm wide such that there is a margin of 1.5 cm.

To find :

  • What is the total area of the margin.

Using formula :

★ Area = L1 × B1 - L2 × B2.

Know terms :

  1. L1 = Length (1).
  2. L2 = Length (2).
  3. B1 = Breadth (1).
  4. B2 = Breadth (2).

Calculations :

→ 8 (5) - 5 (2)

→ 40 - 10

→ 30 cm²

Therefore, 30 cm² is the area of margin.
