and the picture leaves the space of 2 cm breadth so

30*2 + 30*2 + 36*2 + 36*2 = 120 + 144

The area of the strip = Area of Board - Area of Picture.

Area of Board = 40cm × 30 cm = 1200 cm^2

There is a vacant space of 2 cm along the board.

Area of Picture = [40 - 4] • [30 - 4] = 36 • 26 = 936 cm^2

Area of the strip = 1200 - 936 = 264 cm^2 and not 1200 cm^2
