A piece of chalk can be broken into small particle whereas a piece of iron cannot be broken into small particles.why

In chalk the molecules are loosly held.i.e.the intermolecular forces between chalk molecules is very less where as in iron, the molecules are bonded with strong intermolecular forces.
So chalk can be broken down easily than iron.
