A piece of chalk can be broken into pieces because it's particles are strongly packed but somewhat have spaces between them but in case of an iron piece, it's particles are very tightly packed and have no intercellular spaces, therefore a piece of chalk can't be broken into pieces by hand....A heavy machine can be used to break iron piece into small pieces because of it's very heavy weight.....
