Answer: length of original cloth= 25 metres

Price per metre = ₹12

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length of the cloth be “x” metres

Cost per metre be “y” metres

So for 1 metre = ₹y

For x metres = ₹xy = ₹300

xy = 300

Now according to the question

(x+5) * (y-2) = 300

=> xy - 2x + 5y - 10 = xy (from above)

=> 2x - 5y + 10 = 0

Substitute y = 300/x in the above equation

=> 2x - 5(300/x) +10 = 0

=> 2x^2 +10x - 1500 = 0

On solving the equation, we get

x= 50/2=25 or x=(-30) which is not possible

Therefore the length of the original cloth is 25 metres

Cost per metre is 300/25= ₹12
