A piece of cloth is 5m long and 2m wide. A border of width 50cm has to printed and stitched all around it on the outside . Find the cost of printing the border at ₹200 per m²​

Piece of cloth, inner rectangle length = 5m , breadth = 2m

border of cloth for the piece of cloth = 50 cm = 0.5 m

piece of cloth with border, outer rectangle,

length = 5m + 0.5 m + 0.5 m = 6 m

breadth = 2m + 0.5 m + 0.5 m = 3m

Area of border = area of outer rectangle - area of smaller rectangle

= ( 6m x 3m ) - ( 5m x 2m )

= 18m² - 10m² = 8m²

cost of printing of border = Rs. 200 per m²

then for 8m² the cost of printing = Rs. 200 x 8 = Rs.1600
