Given :

Total length of the piece of cloth = 10m

Now, let the length of one piece be x metre

Then, length of the other piece = one fourth of x = 1/4x

Equation formed :

 \\ x + \frac{1}{4} x = 10

Solving the equation :

 \\ x + \frac{1}{4} x = 10

 \\ \implies \frac{1}{1} x + \frac{1}{4} x = 10

 \\ \implies \frac{5}{4} x = 10

 \implies5x = 10 \times 4 = 40

 \\ \implies \therefore \: x = \frac{40}{5} = 8

Therefore :

Length of one piece = x = 8m

Length of another piece = 1/4x = 1/4 × 8 = 2m
