If question is not incorrect then one piece will be 36/5 and another will be 144/5 , in which case answer will be 5184/25 or something, which seems incorrect. I think the full statement in first sentence of the question "One piece is equal to one-fifth the length of another piece". Have solved with this scenario. Check solution below

Let the one piece is x m long
∴ length of another piece = 36 - x
ATQ
Length of one piece = 1/5 (length of another piece)
∴ x = 1/5 (36 - x)
5x = 36 - x
6x = 36
x = 6 m
Length of one piece is 6 m
Length of another piece = 36 - 6 = 30 m
Product of lengths of both pieces = 6 m × 30 m = 180 m²
