A piece of iron or iron gate need painting every year but a piece of aluminium do not require a painting though aluminium is more reactive than iron.Why?

This could probably be because aluminium reacts with air and forms a thin film of oxide layer over it.

This oxide layer is very protective in nature and prevents the aluminium from further reactions.

Hence aluminum need not be painted whereas iron needs to be painted every year
