Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

a piece of length 3. 4 / 12 metres is cut off from a rope 7. 1/4 metres long . what is the length of the remaining portion .

To find:-

Length of the rope=7 1/4 m=29/4 m

If it cut into pieces then

a length of the one piece =3 4/12m=40/12=10/3m

Length of the remaining portion of the rope=

29/4-10/3

=>[(29×3)-(10×4)]/12

=>(87-40)/12

=>47/12

=>3 11/12 m

Answer:-

Length of the remaining portion of the rope

=3 11/12 m
