The weight of the metal in air - 98N

The weight of the metal in air - 98N The volume of the metal. - 9.9 cc

The weight of the metal in air - 98N The volume of the metal. - 9.9 cc The density of the metal - 1.01 grams per centimeter cube.

GIVEN

Mass of metal = 10 gram

Weight of metal in water = 0.078 N.

TO FIND

  • The weight of the metal in air. (3)
  • The volume of the metal. (3)
  • The density of the metal. (3)

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows-

It is given,

Mass of Metal = 10 grams.

We know that,

Weight = Mass × Acceleration due to gravity.

= 10 × 9.8

= 98 N

Hence, The weight of metal is 98N in air.

Weight of Metal in water = 0.078 N.

Mass of water in water = Weight / acceleration due to gravity.

= 0.078/9.8

= 0.0079 grams.

Now,

Volume /Mas of water displaced = 10-0.0079 = 9.99

Volume of water displaced = Volume of metal.

Hence, The volume of metal is 9.99 cc

We will calculate the density of the metal by the following formula -

d =  \frac{mass}{volume}

Putting the values in the above formula we get,

d  =  \frac{10}{9.9}

d = 1.01 g/cc

Hence, the density of the metal is 1.01 grams per centimeter cube.
