Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A piece of wire 7/8 meter long broke into two pieces. One was 1/4 meter long.

To find:-

How long is the other piece?

Solution:-

The length of the wire = 7/8 meters

If it is broken into two pieces then

Length of the one piece = 1/4 meters

Let the length of the another piece be X meters

Length of the wire = Sum of the lengths of the two pieces

=>(1/4)+X = 7/8

=>X = (7/8)-(1/4)

LCM of 8 and 4= 4

=>X = [(7×1)-(×2)]/8

=>X = (7-2)/8

=>X = 5/8

The value of X = 5/8 meters

Answer:-

.

The length of the other piece of the wire is

5/8 meters

Answer:

6.24 cm or 625m

Step-by-step explanation:

7/8 of a meter in cm is

100 ÷ 8 = 12.5

so 7/8m is

7×12.5 = 87.5/100m

so 1/4 m would be

4÷100 = 25/100m

then,

87.5cm - 25cm = 62.5cm

in fractions = 5/8

or 0.625m
